Geraldine S. “Gerry” Roberts
Geraldine S. Roberts is a Pittsburgh native who has been a trial lawyer for over 31 years, offering skilled insurance defense and all aspects of civil litigation. She focuses primarily on state and federal litigation throughout West Virginia.
Gerry has successfully represented numerous insurance companies in all aspects of defense litigation, including defense of insureds, insurance coverage issues, and insurance bad faith claims. In practice, she has effectively defended numerous trucking companies and owner/operators against a variety of claims.
Primary Practice Areas
Gerry is a dedicated and successful trial lawyer who has worked in the legal field for over 40 years. She joined the law firm of Goodwin & Goodwin in Charleston, West Virginia, in 1978. In 1980, Gerry moved to Elkins, West Virginia, and shortly after that, she began her tenure as Senior Law Clerk for the Honorable Robert E. Maxwell, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia.
During her time as Judge Maxwell’s law clerk, she helped coordinate the first Settlement Week in West Virginia and was trained as one of the first groups of court-approved mediators in 1987. She returned to private practice in Elkins in 1988. She joined McNeer, Highland, McMunn and Varner, L.C. in 1994 and became a shareholder.
Professional Affiliations & Memberships
Gerry graduated from Seton Hill College in 1971 with a Bachelor’s Degree in political science and international relations. After moving to Morgantown, WV, and teaching in Preston and Tucker counties for several years, she resumed her passion in the field of law in 1974. She went on to obtain her Juris Doctor from West Virginia University College of Law.
Gerry is the mother of two children, Ben and Kate. Ben is currently the owner of his own construction and homebuilding company, and Kate is a recent WVU law school graduate clerking for the Honorable Louis Bloom, Circuit Judge for Kanawha County, West Virginia.
