Jim Riley has over 37 years of experience as a successful civil trial lawyer. He has represented clients in numerous circuit courts throughout West Virginia, the West Virginia Supreme Court, the Northern and Southern United States District Courts, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Jim was selected as one of West Virginia’s Best Lawyers in the areas of Insurance Law, Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants, and Product Liability Litigation – Defendants.

Jim has been married to his wife, Brenda, for 36 years. They are the parents of two children, Ryan Riley, and Keri Smith. They are also the grandparents of Camden and Payton Riley, and Mollie and Daniel Smith.

Jim has been a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and currently worships at Vincent Memorial United Methodist Church, where he has held various positions. He is an avid West Virginia University sports fan with season tickets for both football and basketball. He has also been involved in area youth sports leagues and the Harrison County United Way. Jim is also a member of the Nutter Fort Board of Zoning Appeals, the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce, and the WV Contractors Association. Jim is also a member and Charter President of the Nutter Fort Lions Club.

Experience

Jim began his professional practice with the Clarksburg firm of Young, Morgan, Cann & Romano. He then worked for the Law Offices of David J. Romano. In 1988, he served as a law clerk under the Honorable William M. Kidd, United States District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia.

In November 1989, he then accepted an associate position at what was then known as McNeer, Highland, and McMunn. He became a Partner there on January 1, 1993, was elected to the firm’s Executive Committee in 2000, and also served as past Director and President.
